The movie follows the story of a dystopian future. Set in Panem, with a total of 12 districts, divided from richest to poorest, the lives of those in the state often feature hardship and misfortune.

A boy and a girl from each district, called Tributes, are selected each year to participate in a nationally televised event called The Hunger Games. They are then tasked with fighting to the death until only one survivor remains. In the first film, derived from the book with the same name, we see Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellmark from district 12 make history by winning together.
