Aston Villa and Tottenham are said to be interested in signing Tammy Abraham – a player Gary Lineker once felt could take the place of Harry Kane for England.

That is according to Corriere dello Sport in Italy, who believe Unai Emery and Antonio Conte are keeping a close eye on the England international amid a difficult period for the striker at Roma.

Aston Villa & Tottenham want Abraham

Well, the 25-year-old has only scored four goals in 20 appearances for Roma this season, which has led to boos from his own supporters.

It comes despite Abraham scoring 27 goals in all competitions last term as Roma won the inaugural UEFA Conference League, so his drop-off has been significant.

Calciomercato believe José Mourinho – who has criticised some of his No.9’s performances this season – would consider selling the Londoner if a good offer arrives in January.

Therefore, Aston Villa or Tottenham have a decent chance of completing a deal, presumably if they bid close to the £34m Roma paid Chelsea for Abraham back in August 2021.

Gary Lineker rates Aston Villa & Tottenham target

If Aston Villa or Tottenham do manage to sign Abraham, the move would carry the seal of approval from Lineker.

The BBC Match of the Day host has previously described the striker as a “lovely finisher” while he was shining for Chelsea under Frank Lampard.

In response to one particularly well taken effort against Crystal Palace back in November 2019, Lineker even suggested that Abraham could provide “serious competition” for Kane’s England spot, which is high praise indeed.

Abraham is yet to do that, and was even left out of the England World Cup squad due to his poor form in Italy.

Nevertheless, if he seals a return to the Premier League with Aston Villa or Tottenham, he is more than capable of playing his way back into favour under Gareth Southgate.
