Alan Shearer says Kieran Trippier has been Newcastle’s “best player”

Alan Shearer has told Premier League Productions (17/11/2022) that Kieran Trippier may be Newcastle United’s best player this season.

Trippier has a case for being the best right-back in the Premier League

Since his arrival from Atletico Madrid for £12 million (Sky Sports) in January, the 32-year-old has been a revelation for the Magpies.

Taking on the pressure of the armband instantly with ease, Trippier has been the blueprint of how to be excel as the complete right-back in the modern game.

Going forward, the La Liga champion, especially this season has produced jaw-dropping moments on a number of occasions.

Whether it be his stunning free-kick against Manchester City or the sublime through-ball to assist Joe Willock’s winner against Southampton, Kieran Trippier has been a nuisance for defences with his wand of a right foot.

And defensively, the England international has given some of the finest wingers in the division a day to forget, as there has been no questioning how solid he is at snuffing out attacks.

Shearer says Trippier has a claim for being Newcastle’s best player

While picking his Premier League Team of the Season 14 games in, the Newcastle United icon picked Kieran Trippier as his right-back, while suggesting he may well be the club’s best player this season.

“It will be no surprise that I’m going for Kieran Trippier at right-back”, he told Premier League Productions.

Shearer continued, “He [Trippier] has been a game-changer for Newcastle. When he came in, showed great leadership qualities, has followed that up again this season and has been of, if not Newcastle’s best player this season.”

“Not many wide players have actually gone past him at all and he has been superb.”

With Kieran Trippier putting in masterclasses week in, week out for Eddie Howe’s side, Alan Shearer’s claim about him being the best player this season is certainly not a hot take.
