West Ham United want Jeffinho but face competition from Newcastle United in the race to sign the Botafogo winger.

It sounds like both Newcastle and West Ham are looking towards the Brazilian market for potential signings.

Newcastle have been linked with the likes of Andrey Santos and Angelo Gabriel of Vasco da Game and Santos respectively.

Then there is Vasco talent Eguinaldo, with claims from Brazil suggesting that both Newcastle and West Ham want him.

West Ham United and Newcastle want Jeffinho

The latest name to add to the list is Botafogo youngster Jeffinho.

That sounds like a made up player but we can promise you that Jeffinho is real and that is definitely the name he’s going with.

Mercado do Futebol in Brazil report that Newcastle and West Ham have both been showing an interest in Jeffinho.

Ajax are also keen with all three clubs understood to have been in attendance to scout Jeffinho against Santos on Thursday night.

Jeffinho, 22, has played predominantly as a left winger during his time in the Botafogo first team.

The Brazilian does though have the ability to play up front or even in midfield with his versatility likely appealing.

Jeffinho has racked up 40 appearances for Botafogo across all competitions this season, bagging four goals and seven assists in those games.

This isn’t quite wonderkid territory with Jeffinho turning 23 next month but West Ham and Newcastle seemingly see huge potential in him.

Eguinaldo is only 18 as a comparison, so there would be an expectation for Jeffinho to be able to make a quick impact if he heads to England.

Botafogo don’t want to sell unless they receive a large bid but interest from two Premier League clubs and a major European side in Ajax means an offer may well arrive.

Jeffinho is now a name for Newcastle and West Ham to keep close tabs on ahead of the January window, alongside a number of other Brazilian talents.
