Everton target Nikita Haikin has confirmed his departure from Bodo/Glimt amid reports linking the former Chelsea youngster with a return to the Premier League, speaking to EuroSport.
Perhaps Haikin feels he has unfinished business on British soil. Once of Chelsea, Reading and Portsmouth; the Isreal-born former Russia U21 international has never before played a senior game in England’s top flight, but that could soon change with his contract expiring in late-December.
According to The Telegraph, Everton are interested. The 6ft 2ins shot-stopper spent time in West London during Frank Lampard’s time at Chelsea, and a reunion may be now be on the cards at Goodison Park.
That’s presuming, of course, the increasingly under-fire Lampard is still in a job by the time January rolls around.
“It has been quite a journey,” says Haikin, confirming his impending departure from a Bodo/Glimt outfit who won the Norwegian Eliteserien title in 2020 and 2021.
“What we have achieved both in Norway, but also in Europe, is quite special. It was very difficult (to say goodbye). Sad, actually. The reception and love I got from the fans is very, very special. I can’t describe it. I am speechless.”

Haikin, who admits to having ‘no idea’ about what the future holds despite holding talks with a number of interested parties, explains that a desire for a fresh start is behind his decision not to sign a new contract at a Bodo/Glimt side who famously beat Roma 6-1 a year ago.
“I think everyone understood where I stood. I think this is a perfect time for me to move on to challenge myself somewhere else, and step out of my comfort zone,” Haikin adds.
“I’m very grateful for the whole experience; the people I have met, the matches we have played, and for Norway as a country. I really love this country.”
Haikin could potentially replace Asmir Begovic at Everton. The 35-year-old back-up is entering the final few months of his contract on the blue side of Stanley Park. As such, Begovic will need to be replaced at some point in 2023.
