AC Milan are reportedly confident in winning the race to sign Chelsea attacker Hakim Ziyech in January, with Tottenham also believed to be chasing the Morocco international.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the reigning Serie A champions are now ‘confident’ in signing the Premier League star in the coming weeks, with CalcioMercto recently reporting that Ziyech himself is eager to move to Milan as his Chelsea career looks to be over already.
The former Ajax star joined the Blues in 2020 yet has failed to impress in west London over the past three seasons, with new manage Graham Potter not a fan of Ziyech based on his nine appearances in all competitions this campaign.
The news will come as a big blow for Tottenham, who according to Algemeen Dagblad are interested in signing the Chelsea outcast as well. However, Milan look to be clear favourites to recruit the 29-year-old playmaker in January, with a deal likely to be completed over the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

With a reported wage of £100,000-a-week, Ziyech’s spell with Chelsea has seemingly done nothing to hinder the winger’s reputation, with the Dutch-born talent still regarded by many as a top attacker and playmaker, which is what both Milan and Tottenham are looking to sign in January.
However, it is the Rossoneri who will win the race to sign Ziyech, with Tottenham having to now look elsewhere as Antonio Conte will no doubt be fuming that a former rival club in Milan have beaten the north London side to the Moroccon international’s signature.
Milan signing Ziyech is a big blow for Tottenham’s January plan

Ziyech’s form at Chelsea might have been lacklustre ever since joining the Premier League giants. Yet there’s no denying that, in the right system, the former Ajax star could be one deadly asset for many top sides. Which is why Milan beating Tottenham to the winger will feel like such a blow.
The 29-year-old has had three seasons of mixed form and playing a style that doesn’t play to his strengths. And for Milan, getting the best out of Ziyech could be massive in their goal to challenge Napoli for the Serie A title, much to the dismay of Tottenham.
