Ex-Arsenal star Alex Iwobi had his own shirt thrown back at him during an angry exchange between Everton fans and their players following their defeat at Bournemouth.
Only a few days ago, Everton were slapped 4-1 at Bournemouth and knocked out of the League Cup. You would think they would have learnt their lesson upon their return to the South Coast for a Premier League encounter on Saturday? Well, clearly not.
They returned to suffer yet another loss, this time 3-0, and after the full-time whistle, the Everton supporters weren’t happy at all.
The Everton players, including manager Frank Lampard, went over to the away end to try and cool some hot tempers.
As fans like to do on a regular basis, they like to ask for the shirt of their players. Well, Iwobi proceeded to hand his shirt to a fan, only to find it being thrown back at him like he was the bad guy in WWE, as posted by Sky Sports in the video below.
IWOBI HAS BEEN ONE OF EVERTON’S BETTER PLAYERS
Ever since Iwobi’s £28 million transfer from Arsenal to Everton (Sky Sports), Iwobi found life tough at Goodison Park and he was one of the players that was being thrown into the bracket of ‘flop transfers’.
But all of that changed once Lampard walked through the doors on Merseyside back in January.
After floating out on the wings, Lampard moved the Hale-End academy product into the middle of the park and he hasn’t looked back since.
Even during this difficult period for the Toffees, he has perhaps been his side’s best player this season, so that reaction from the fans was a little harsh on Iwobi himself.
In truth, it probably wasn’t a reaction towards the player himself, but the team as a whole because you have to feel sorry for the fans making that long trip from Merseyside to the South Coast – twice in a week – only to watch their players produce utter dross.
