Paul Merson has praised Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson on Sky Sports News (5:42pm, November 12, 2022) for his performance against Southampton at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon.
The former Arsenal star has noted that Alisson made three world-class saves for Liverpool against Southampton.
Merson was following the match for Sky Sports.
Liverpool won 3-1.
Roberto Firmino scored one goal, and Darwin Nunez found the back of the net twice.
Southampton did have chances, and Alisson was forced into making a few saves.
And Merson was impressed
Paul Merson on Alisson for Liverpool v Southampton
Merson said: “My only problem with Liverpool would be Alisson made three world-class saves.”

Good win for the Reds
We do get Paul Merson’s point about Alisson needing to make saves to win the match for Liverpool.
But is that not why goalkeepers are paid?
To keep the ball out of their goal?
Yes, Alisson had to make saves against Southampton, but you seriously cannot expect a team not to have their goalkeeper called into action over the course of the 90 minutes.
Liverpool have not been great defensively so far this season, but Alisson has been brilliant between the posts and has done his job brilliantly.
In the end, Southampton managed just one goal, and Liverpool could have added to their tally and won the match by a bigger margin.
