Speaking on the Sky Sports Football Podcast, Alan Smith has been discussing Thomas Partey and his role in this Arsenal team.

The Ghanaian has been undoubtedly one of the most important players in the Arsenal team this season, but he can sometimes go a bit under the radar due to the fact he isn’t the flashiest footballer.

Yes, he’s scored a couple of absolute humdingers this season, but his general game can sometimes escape praise.

Smith says that Partey is easy to overlook because he makes the game look far too easy – which, in his opinion, is the hallmark of a good player.

Partey goes under the radar

Smith spoke about Partey.

“He makes the game look so easy so it is easy to overlook him. He always knows who is around him he always know where he is on the pitch. He has that spatial awareness which is an amazing quality to have. He moves the ball so intelligently it’s always a positive touch that will take him away from somebody. He just makes it all look so simple which the best players do,” Smith said.

Doesn’t put a foot wrong

Partey may not be the most exciting player in the Arsenal team, but he’s undoubtedly one of the most reliable.

As Smith says, he does all of the simple things correctly, and he never ever puts a foot wrong.

It is easy to overlook players like this at time – football history is littered with examples, but the top teams don’t function without players like this in the squad.

Partey really does make this Arsenal team tick, and if they’re going to win the league this season, they’ll owe a lot to the midfielder.
