Leeds United want Jose Cifuentes but Brighton and Hove Albion appear to be pushing to beat them and Newcastle United to his signature.

MLS talents are being linked with Premier League moves on a regular basis.

Leeds alone are rumoured to be keen on Philadelphia Union left back Kai Wagner, Austin FC forward Sebastian Driussi and Cincinnati striker Brandon Vazquez.

Maybe the eventual rise of Miguel Almiron is tempting clubs into exploring the American market and Cifuentes could be next.

Leeds United want Jose Cifuentes

The Sun reported in August that Leeds United and Newcastle United were both scrambling to try and sign LAFC star Cifuentes.

The duo allegedly heard that Brighton and Hove Albion were pushing for his signature and didn’t want to miss out.

The transfer window passed without Cifuentes moving on but the rumours haven’t exactly ended.

El Futbolero report that Brighton are now moving in for Cifuentes as a replacement for Moises Caicedo.

The Seagulls seemingly anticipate January interest in Caicedo and want Cifuentes to take his spot.

An offer of €6million (£5.2million) has allegedly been submitted and Brighton are hopeful of winning the race.

Leeds and Newcastle are both mentioned once again and are still believed to be keen on signing the midfielder.

Cifuentes, 23, joined LAFC in 2020 and he become one of Major League Soccer’s top midfield players.

Hailed as ‘terrific’ by South American football expert Tim Vickery, Cifuentes is an all-action midfielder who is just as likely to break up play as he is to unleash a long-range strike.

Leeds and Newcastle may still have hope but Brighton have become quite the home for Ecuadorian players.

Pervis Estupinan, Jeremy Sarmiento and Caicedo himself are all at Brighton right now and Cifuentes could become their latest Ecuadorian signing.
