Instagram’s latest update has brought loads of exciting new features, including being able to add music to a post.

The update arrived in November 2022 and lets users do so many cool things like share a Note, which is like a status that only lasts for 24 hours.

Plus, for the first time ever, you can now schedule photos and videos for any date and time up to 75 days in the future so they post on their own.

However, users are definitely most excited about the music feature. Read on to find out how to add a song to an Instagram post…

New update lets you add music to Instagram posts

We’ve always been able to add music to Stories, but now you can add a song to your feed posts too.

As you’re scrolling down your homepage, photos and videos will start having music as the feature is rolled out across the world.

Like Stories, the songs can be chosen from Instagram’s library which is full of tracks from all different genres and eras.

The feature is optional, so you don’t have to add music to every post, and the music won’t play if your phone is on silent.

How to add music to an Instagram post

  • Tap the + on the homepage and choose the photo you want to post.
  • Press Next and edit the photo. Then press Next again.
  • On this page, you’ll see a section that says Add Music.
  • Click on this and choose the song you wat to attach to the picture.
  • Now tap Share and the post will be uploaded with the song.

Can’t see the Add Music section?

If you haven’t got the Add Music feature on your post yet, that probably means it’s not available in your region yet.

As with all new features, adding music to posts hasn’t been rolled out to all accounts at the same time and will be done in stages.

Right now, the music feature seems like it could be a trial that Instagram is testing and has therefore only been added to selected profiles.

You should make sure you’ve installed the latest version of the Instagram app as this might bring the feature to your account.

If not, there is unfortunately nothing else you can do apart from wait. Eventually, if the feature is successful, it will be rolled out to all accounts.
