Mohammed Kudus has given Everton fresh hope of securing his signature presuming the Premier League outfit plan to renew their interest in the Ajax forward in 2023, speaking to Algemeen Dagblad.

That 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace at Goodison Park was supposed to jump-start Everton’s season. Instead, Frank Lampard’s side have spluttered and stalled again, slamming head-first into the nearest bollard during a humiliating 4-1 defeat to AFC Bournemouth in the EFL Cup.

That was, in all competitions, Everton’s fifth defeat in seven games.

Such a dismal run of form is not going to aid their attempts to bring in new faces during the January window either, with another relegation battle not out of the question for a side now just four points off the bottom of the table.

Would Ghana international Kudus really swap European football at Ajax for a new challenge at Goodison Park? The former Nordsjaelland youngster admitted that he was keen on a move to Merseyside over the summer. And, while he is refusing to rule out a departure from the Netherlands in 2023, one presumes he may have better offers now with Borussia Dortmund among those keen.

Can Ajax’s Mohammed Kudus still end up at Everton?

“Of course, things have changed since (saying I wanted to leave). I have started playing more,” explains Kudus.

“I believe that if I had (left) – and we never know for sure – things could have gone well or better. That’s how I felt at that moment too. I wanted to try something new. That’s normal in football.

“Not necessarily,” Kudus adds when asked if he is now committed to a long-term future at Ajax. “Because I’m a player who likes to challenge himself. This is my third season here. We’ll see what the future brings.

“The most important thing is that I just keep performing for the team, and the rest will follow naturally later.”

Kudus has 10 goals in 19 games for Ajax this season, splitting his time between his favoured attacking midfield role and a new position at centre-forward. Everton reportedly offered £15 million back in August; a move Kudus described as potentially a ‘great opportunity’ (Independent).
