Liverpool are up for sale, and understandably, the rich and the mega-rich currently have their eyes on a potential deal for the Anfield outfit.
Jim Ratcliffe, Bahrain and Steve Pagliuca have all been linked with a potential takeover of the Reds, but now, another, more famous, name has thrown his hat into the ring.
Indeed, UFC star Conor McGregor says that he’s keen on a deal to become the new owner of the Merseyside club.
McGregor says that he’s asked for information about this potential takeover, and that begs the question; how likely is such a deal?
Well, the first thing you want to be looking at is McGregor’s net worth, and sadly, that’s where this falls apart a bit.
Some seem to believe that McGregor’s net worth is around $200m, way short of the reported £3.5bn that Liverpool could sell for. However, McGregor may actually be worth more than has been reported.
He’s reportedly recently sold a share in his whiskey company for $700m, while he’s boasted on Facebook this year that he’s a ‘billionaire’.

It’s not hard to believe that McGregor’s net worth does top the £1bn mark, but even then, he’s way short of the mammoth fee it would take to buy Liverpool from FSG.
So, is this deal likely?
Well, McGregor has a history of making these headline-grabbing claims, and ultimately, they usually come to nothing.
The Irishman can often be accused of being something of an attention seeker, and that seems to be the case here.
Just last year he was speaking about how he wanted to buy Manchester United.
McGregor is also a boyhood United fan, so going out and buying Liverpool at this point would be something of a betrayal to his roots as a football fan.
“I was more a player than a watcher back then, but Manchester United was my team,” McGregor said in 2019.
“I was attracted to the success and winning mentality of the club and people surrounded by United. Irish legends like Denis Irwin and Roy Keane were dedicated to their craft and had that winning mentality
“Then they had the don of football at the helm, the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson. To have that much success over such a long period is remarkable and something I continue to aspire to. And he did it by nurturing youngsters into stars and not by spending and spending and spending like some of these other managers.”
Is McGregor going to buy Liverpool? Probably not, but his net worth may well be higher than is reported in some places.
