Returning from a successful loan spell with Marseille last season, William Saliba has been nothing short of a revelation for Arsenal.
As the Gunners sit at the summit of the Premier League table, the French international has been one of, if not the standout centre-back in the division during the 2022/2023 season.
The 21-year old’s influence is clearly noticeable by taking a peek at the numbers, as Mikel Arteta’s side have conceded the joint-least number of goals in the league (11), alongside Newcastle United so far.
Keeping that in mind, it is no surprise that the club are reportedly keen on renewing Saliba’s contract, which runs out next summer.
However, there are question marks over whether the highly-rated youngster will commit his long-term future at the Emirates Stadium, with plenty of clubs seemingly interested in prising him away in the following season.
As Arsenal await the fate of William Saliba at the club, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive update has emerged about his plans in North London on his official YouTube channel.
“Speaking about contracts, I can tell you that for William Saliba that there is a proposal on the table and Saliba is really considering this proposal,” he said.
The Italian journalist continued, “There are conversations ongoing, Arsenal are really optimistic but a decision is to go really strong on these new contract talks in the next weeks and months.”
As the wonderkid put in yet another colossal shift in Arsenal’s latest 1-0 win against Chelsea, his stock is continuing to grow as one of Europe’s most in-form central defenders.

Arsenal will hope that their optimism is matched by William Saliba, as he mulls over whether he should prolong his stay at the club for years to come.
While the likes of Ben White and Gabriel Magalhaes are stellar centre-halves, the club will consider the Frenchman as the jewel in their crown of defenders as a part of Mikel Arteta’s burgeoning project for the long-term.
