Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Benfica star Enzo Fernandez, who this season has taken Europe by storm after joining the Portuguese giants in the summer from River Plate.
The Argentine international has played a huge role in Benfica’s unbeaten season as the Eagles finished top of their UEFA Champions League group and look on track to win the Primeira Liga for the first time since 2019, with Fernandez already drawing transfer interest from the likes of Liverpool.
Sport recently reported that the Merseyside giants are interested in signing Fernandez, with Liverpool facing competition from the likes of Chelsea and Wolves for the midfielder’s signature. And according to a recent CIES study, the Reds could have to pay a hefty transfer fee to land the 21-year-old.
The Football Observatory published their latest study this week looking into the values of players aged 25-and-under playing outside of Europe’s top-five leagues, and Fernandez topped the list with an estimated transfer valuation of €61m (£53m).
Liverpool must push for Fernandez signing after CIES finding

With Fernandez coming out on top against the likes of PSV Eindhoven superstar Cody Gakpo, Ajax defender Jurrien Timber and FC Porto goalkeeper Diogo Costa, the hype around the Benfica star is seemingly justified, as is Liverpool’s interest in the South American superstar.
Indeed, Fernandez is getting better with each passing game for Benfica, and these latest findings from CIES should add more fuel to Liverpool’s cause to move for the midfielder in 2023, especially with many rival clubs also interested in signing the Argentina dynamo.
