West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice has told Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell on Instagram ‘you will be back’, whilst Liverpool captain, Jordan Henderson, has told his England teammate ‘get well soon’ after his injury news.

Both the West Ham and Liverpool duo are expected to be on the plane to Qatar for the 2022 World Cup next week, but Chilwell’s seat will be taken up by somebody else.

He has suffered a ‘significant’ hamstring injury, as reported by BBC Sport, and with the World Cup around the corner, he’s going to miss out.

It’s a cruel blow for the left-back because, he was with Henderson and Rice at Euro 2020, he watched that journey to the final unfold, only for it to be ended in yet another cruel penalty shootout.

Many of those England players that were part of Gareth Southgate’s group, aside from a few, were going to be selected again.

And there is a real burning desire to put the wrongs of that previous tournament right, as Chilwell will have to cheer on from the sidelines.

West Ham’s Declan Rice posted in the comments section of the defender’s IG post ‘You’ll be back, brother,’ whilst Jordan Henderson added: ‘Get well soon, mate’.

Well, whilst one door closes for one player, another opens for a player that previously wasn’t going to be making the 26-man squad.

In recent times, Southampton’s Kyle Walker-Peters has also been selected, but he is currently out injured, whilst Leicester City’s James Justin earned his England bow in the summer.

Another road Southgate can go down is picking someone like Newcastle Untied’s versatile and thriving defender Dan Burn, or even previously-selected Tyrick Mitchell.
