Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been discussing how Miguel Almiron reacted to Jack Grealish’s now infamous comments at the end of last season.

For anyone out of the loop, Grealish mocked Almiron at Manchester City’s title-parade last season, drunkenly comparing one of Riyad Mahrez’s worst performances of the season to Almiron’s general standard.

Since then, of course, Almiron has looked like one of the best players in the Premier League, and many have speculated that Grealish has awoken something within the Paraguayan.

Wilson was asked if Almiron has been spurred on by Grealish, but the striker claims that his teammate hasn’t seemed all too bothered by it, stating that he just shrugged his shoulders when hearing these comments.

Almiron unbothered

Wilson shared what he knows

“Was he fuming with what happened with Jack Grealish?” Wilson was asked.

“Well, obviously that comment was made and I didn’t even realise that comment had been made until recently, and I was like ‘what has been said?’ I was oblivious and they were saying what Jack said.

“He’s just like South American, he’s such a nice guy, happy, he didn’t really comment on it, he just shrugged his shoulders. I imagine internally he’s used it as motivation, but he hasn’t said anything to me.”

Proven him wrong

Regardless of whether or not Almiron has had Grealish’s comments in the back of his mind or not, he’s certainly gone a long way towards proving him wrong this season.

Grealish was really unfair towards Almiron in the summer, but now, the tables have turned and the Newcastle ace is outperforming the Manchester City star by some way.

Wilson says that these comments have been like water off of a duck’s back for Almiron, but something has certainly spurred him on this season.
