Arsenal are still reportedly favourites to sign Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans despite rumours in recent weeks that Newcastle United had taken the lead in the race.
According to the Mirror, the north London side are still tipped to pip the Magpies to the Belgian international, with Tielemans expected to leave Leicester in January as the midfielder heads into the final six months of his contract at the King Power Stadium side.
Arsenal were heavily linked with Tielemans in the summer. However, despite plenty of rumours, no official bid was ever lodged by Mikel Arteta’s side. And since then, Newcastle have emerged as strong favourites to sign the 25-year-old in the January transfer window.
As per the Mirror, Tielemans is on Newcastle’s radar as Eddie Howe looks to sign a new midfielder in the new year. However, Arsenal could now pip the Magpies to the former AS Monaco star if Arteta and Edu Gaspar make an effort in January to sign the Premier League star.

With a reported asking price of £25m according to Football London, there’s a good chance that Arsenal could better Newcastle’s offer for Tielemans with midfield a position the Gunners will look to strengthen in January as the Gunners look to maintain their Premier League title bid.
Indeed, Tielemans would be an incredible addition to almost every Premier League side given his quality and ability to play numerous roles. And for Arsenal, beating Newcastle to the midfielder must be a priority for Arteta ahead of the January transfer window.
Arsenal signing Youri Tielemans will sting for Newcastle

Arsenal and Newcastle will both be looking to sign central midfielders in January, and no player in the English market presents themselves with as much value as Tielemans, who could be a bargain for many top sides if they push hard enough to sign the Leicester star.
However, following this latest report, Arsenal still remaining favourites to land the Belgian will sting for Newcastle, who realistically could be the ideal next for the 25-year-old after some time at Leicester, with Howe taking the Magpies to a new level very few expected to be reached so soon.
