Andy Robertson has paid tribute to Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson for his ‘unbelievable’ assist in the Champions League victory on Wednesday evening.

The Reds moved into the knockout phase of the competition with a 3-0 victory away to Ajax in Amsterdam.

Liverpool went ahead three minutes before the half-time whistle following a wonderful ball by Henderson to set up Mohamed Salah.

After the break, additional goals from Darwin Nunez and Harvey Elliott put the gloss on this victory.

But Robertson was blown away by the assist from his skipper in creating the Salah goal.

He told Liverpool’s website: “Then it was just about getting the first goal, winning the second balls and Hendo’s done unbelievable to pick out Mo.”

Henderson has been receiving a bit of criticism this season following rather erratic midfield displays.

But his performance in the Netherlands last night was a massive reminder of what a brilliant, influential player he can still be for Jurgen Klopp.

After all, he is still the captain of Liverpool and the former Sunderland midfielder – a £20 million signing in 2011 – takes an enormous amount of pride in that role, so obviously playing with his heart on his sleeve is nothing that strange.
