Glenn Hoddle has told BT Sport in his analysis of Tottenham and Sporting’s 1-1 draw that Marcus Edwards would “cost a lot of money” if Spurs tried to re-sign the talent – after he returned to Tottenham to open the scoring on Wednesday.
Edwards, 23, left Tottenham in 2019. Coming through the Spurs academy, he managed just one senior outing at Spurs. Loan spells at Norwich and Excelsior did not work. He joined Vitoria Guimaraes and proved what he is capable of.
The England youth international had a hand in 34 goals during 96 games for Vitoria, earning a move to Sporting in January. He helped Sporting go on to win their first Liga NOS title under Ruben Amorim in 19 years last season.
This season, he is their main threat. In 16 games this term, he has 10 goal involvements. Five goals, five assists. He is reminding Spurs that they made a mistake – and Hoddle thinks he would cost a lot if Spurs tried to re-sign him.

“He is a real talent, but for Spurs, he is one that has gone through the hands there. If they were to buy him, he would cost a lot more money,” Hoddle said when discussing Edwards, in his analysis on BT Sport following the 1-1 draw.
Hoddle: Edwards would ‘cost a lot’ if Tottenham tried to re-sign talent
The tricky attacker looks like an exceptional talent. He is hardly young any more at 23, and with more than 150 club appearances at senior level throughout his career. Sporting paid around £7million for Edwards back in January.
If Spurs tried to bring him back to London, you would expect his value might have tripled, or quadrupled at the very least. Would he want to come back to Spurs? Is he hurt by his exit, or would he want to prove a point? Intriguing.
