Jermaine Jenas has hammered Lucas Moura during his role as co-commentator on BT Sport after the Tottenham ace faliled to deliver a cross despite having plenty of time to do so in the second 45 against Sporting on Wednesday night.

Lucas, 30, started for Tottenham on Wednesday night – and lasted 82 minutes as Spurs failed to beat the Portuguese side at home. The two sides played out a 1-1 draw, in which Spurs were poor in the first 45, but rallied in the second.

It was ex-Tottenham attacker Marcus Edwards that opened the scoring. Given the time and space to lash home a left-footed effort from the edge of the area, one that many believe Hugo Lloris should have stopped. But Spurs came back.

In the second half, they were much better. Spurs knocked, and knocked on the door before eventually, Rodrigo Bentancur climbed above Sporting goalkeeper Antonio Adan to head a corner into the net. Then, drama.

Harry Kane scored what seemed to be a winner in the 95th minute – but VAR, after a four-minute check, ruled the goal out. It saw Antonio Conte sent off. Ultimately, a disappointing night for Spurs overall. But it could have been worse.

Before Bentancur had equalised, Lucas had a brilliant chance to get the ball into the box. But it looked as if Lucas scuffed the cross, and Jenas – who was working as a co-commentator on BT Sport – was full of criticism for the winger.

“Really poor that from Lucas. It was on a plate for him to whip the ball across but he can’t even beat the first man. He’s going to be slightly rusty, not been out there for a while. It would not surprise me to see Bryan Gil take his place.”

What an ending to a game that was pretty poor until Bentancur’s goal. The Uruguayan midfielder’s injected life into the match for the last 20 minutes. It gave Spurs a massive chance to go on and qualify. They still remain top.

But just two points separate all four clubs. For Lucas, he tried to inject energy. But his first touch was poor, and he struggled to really have an impact for Tottenham. His moment to cross was woeful. But, a positive to see him start.
