Jamie Carragher has hailed Miguel Almiron as a ‘different player’ after his goal for Newcastle United against Tottenham Hotspur.

Newcastle made the long trip down to North London on Sunday with Eddie Howe chasing a statement win over a so-called ‘big six’ club.

The Magpies duly delivered with Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron scoring in the first half.

Harry Kane gave Tottenham hope with a trademark back post header but Newcastle held on for a superb 2-1 away win.

Jamie Carragher has hailed Miguel Almiron

Forget Bruno Guimaraes, forget Sven Botman, forget the Newcastle takeover if you can, for just a moment.

The big story here is the remarkable rise of Miguel Almiron.

The Paraguayan hadn’t really lived up to expectations following his January 2019 move from Atalanta United.

Out of nowhere, Eddie Howe has turned Almiron into an absolute menace to Premier League defenders.

Almiron has now bagged six goals in 12 outings this term, including five goals in his last five games.

The 28-year-old’s goal against Tottenham was a thing of beauty.

Taking the ball in from Sean Longstaff, Almiron blazed past Clement Lenglet before shifting the ball back onto his left foot and firing past Hugo Lloris.

Howe deserves huge praise for turning Almiron around but Jack Grealish has a part to play here too.

The Manchester City winger mocked Almiron at the end of last season and is now eating his words.

Pundit Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports (23/10, 40min) that Almiron’s form is just ‘absolutely scintillating’ right now.

Carragher added that Almiron is a ‘different player’ now and wouldn’t have scored that kind of goal last season, even joking that Grealish has motivated him into this form.

“The form this man is in is absolutely scintillating,” said Carragher. “Almiron just goes past Lenglet like he’s not there. The confidence this lad has got now, he wouldn’t have done that last season, no doubt about it.”

“This fella is a different player and the man who has motivated him is not just Eddie Howe, I think it’s Jack Grealish!” he added.

Keeping this kind of form going will be hard but with Almiron terrorising defenders, who can really say that this won’t continue?
