Tyrone Mings has posted on his Instagram that he has ‘huge, huge’ respect for Steven Gerrard after he was sacked by Aston Villa.
At the start of the season, Gerrard made a big call to strip Tyrone Mings of the captain’s armband and hand it to midfielder John McGinn, which caused a stir in the media, but the Villa fans saw it coming.
Either way, there was a lot made about what the relationship was like between Mings and Gerrard given that captaincy call, and on the face of it, there didn’t seem to be an issue going by his latest post about his now-sacked manager.
“I also want to show my appreciation to Steven Gerrard and his staff for their support,” said Mings. “I have a huge, huge amount of respect for the gaffer, both as a man and as a coach. I wish you and your staff all the best in the future.”
Gerrard acknowledged the centre-back’s post by liking Mings’ message.
ASTON VILLA 4-0 BRENTFORD
Life after Gerrard started in entertaining fashion because Villa thrashed Brentford 4-0 at Villa Park on Sunday, with the opening three goals coming inside the first 15 minutes.
It was a thunderous, fast-paced, all-action and outstanding 90 minutes of football from Aaron Danks’ men and what fans have been crying out for all season.
Finally, the supporters got to see a double pivot of Douglas Luiz and Leander Dendoncker, whilst Leon Bailey was allowed to hug the touchline.

All three, alongside the likes of Emi Buendia, Mings himself, Ollie Watkins, Danny Ings and the ever-impressive Ashley Young were out of this world.
Villa won near-on every ball and duel. They were pro-active, rather than re-active, the ball was being moved a lot quicker and there was this new lease of life and energy to the team.
It just goes to show what a change of manager can do and how, when you put players in their correct positions, it can result in such performances.
