Entertainment Weekly recently published a roundup of Jennifer Coolidge’s most iconic moments as Karen in Netflix’s The Watcher, noting with special attention her “penchant for a ‘holiday pour’ of wine” – meaning what, exactly?
WARNING: THIS ARTICLE MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR THE WATCHER
The Watcher is an American mystery thriller miniseries.
It premiered on October 13, 2022 on streaming service Netflix. It draws from a 2018 article for New York Magazine’s The Cut, by Reeves Wiedeman, titled The Haunting Of A Dream House (archived here).
The so-called “holiday pour” of wine may have been a thing for some time, but Coolidge has made it cool for a new demographic of Netflix viewers.

What is a ‘holiday pour’ of wine? Meaning explained
Per EW’s roundup mentioned above, Jennifer Coolidge’s Karen requested an extra holiday pour of wine from her favorite waitress during episode 3 of The Watcher, Götterdämmerung.
Incidentally, the episode’s name is a reference to the mythical, cataclysmic downfall of the gods in a final battle with the forces of evil. Also called the apocalypse. It’s German, and also refers more generally to the collapse of a society or regime.
Anyway, the waitress doesn’t fill Karen’s glass enough, and she asks for a holiday pour, meaning she should fill it all the way up to the brim.
A holiday pour is the sort of glass of wine you might enjoy while… on holiday. When you don’t have to get up in the morning.

The Watcher fans are adding ‘holiday pour’ to their vocabulary ‘immediately’
Entertainment Weekly writes that Jennifer Coolidge’s Karen is an icon, a legend, and “the moment.”
And now her influence extends into the lexicon of The Watcher watchers.
Several have taken to Twitter to clarify the meaning of the phrase “holiday pour,” for themselves or for others: ask for one if you want your glass filled to the brim.
Episode 3 isn’t the only time The Watcher makes a thing out of characters drinking wine. In episode 5, Occam’s Razor, Dean and Nora consult their suspect board while drinking large glasses of red. Who is absent from their board? Karen. Sus? Maybe.
What else is it about Karen Calhoun that audiences love?
Twitter user The Holy Church Of Netflix calls Karen “awful yet dangerously iconic”; others call her “weird” and “sus.”
Several appear to have come to the conclusion that Karen is the watcher after just one or two episodes of the seven-part series.
However, others reckon her being “so sus,” as in suspicious, is in fact a red herring.
