Veteran Zamalek coach Jesualdo Ferreira is the latest name to be mentioned as a potential replacement for Bruno Lage at Premier League outfit Wolverhampton Wanderers, as reported via El Balad.
Of all the managers currently linked with the Molineux post, Ferreira’s is perhaps the one that raises the most eyebrows. At 76, the Portugal-born tactician would make Roy Hodgson look like an up-and-coming, managerial whippersnapper by comparison. But age, as they say, is only a number.
A former Portugal, Benfica, Porto and Sporting Lisbon coach, Ferreira’s CV certainly makes for impressive reading. He’s won the Portuguese Primeira Liga three times. The Egyptian top-flight twice. Ferreira also coached Al-Sadd to Qatar League glory before Xavi Hernandez took over.

Wolves linked with former Porto and Benfica coach Jesualdo Ferreira
It is not certain whether there is any truth to Wolves’ interest. Though Ferreira’s Iberian roots certainly seem to add at least some meat to those bones. A proven winner, hugely experienced and a native Portuguese speaker; if Ferreira wasn’t closer to 80 than he is to 70, these links would probably be received a lot more openly by Molineux matchgoers.
Reporter Mohamed Shabana, however, indicated over the weekend that one of football’s most well-travelled coaches is not expected to leave Egyptian giants Zamalek any time soon.
Amir Mortada, the club’s football supervisor, also admits that Ferreira could earn himself a contract extension at the Cairo International Stadium. His current deal runs until 2023.
“It is certainly an honour for Zamalek to renew Ferrera’s contract for an additional season,” Mortada says. “Regardless of the results. And we will work to provide technical stability for Zamalek in order to win titles.”
Wolves are also in talks to bring Nuno Espirito Santo back to Molineux.
In addition to Nuno, Wolves are in negotiations talks with another old flame too. Rob Edwards, formerly their U21 boss, is available after becoming the latest victim of Gino Pozzo’s trigger-happy regime at Watford (talkSPORT).
Julen Lopetegui, meanwhile, turned down Wolves for the second time for personal reasons. Pedro Martins, Ruben Amorim and Sergio Conceicao are also in the conversation.
