Italian outlet CMW claim Newcastle will have to pay a fee between £21.7m and £26m to sign Inter Milan star Joaquin Correa. The Argentina international is a player that has been added to Newcastle’s shortlist ahead of January.

Correa, 28, joined Inter on loan from Lazio in the summer of 2021, before a move was made permanent last summer. The move came around after Simone Inzaghi became Inter manager having worked with Correa during his Lazio stint.

But it has not worked out for Correa. While Inzaghi has done okay in the Inter hotseat, Correa is struggling for game time. Just six goals and two assists in 36 outings during 2021-22, Correa has managed just two goals in 12 this term.

It must be said, he has only started four of those 12 games – failing to complete 90 minutes. It was a similar story last season, starting 14 of his 36 games, and coming off in all 14 starts. He might be open to an exit from the Nerrazzuri.

Indeed, Inter are open to cashing in on Correa. The 18-time Argentina international is a target for Newcastle and the report claims a fee above £21.7million – up to £26million – would convince Inter to cash in on the ex-Sevilla attacker.

Correa has shown in his time at Lazio that he is a top-class forward. In 117 games, he scored 30 goals and laid on 17 assists. This, from a player that is more of an attacking midfielder, second striker or winger – than a centre-forward.

He can play on the right, left, as a 10 or off the shoulder of a target man. He would give Newcastle plenty of options in attack. Not many players are able to break into Argentina’s side and stamp their mark, earning himself 18 caps.
