Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool got the better of defending champions Manchester City 1-0 at home.

Chris Sutton on Virgil van Dijk for Liverpool v Manchester City
Sutton said about Van Dijk: “I thought Van Dijk, everyone was talking about that battle with Erling Haaland, but Van Dijk was nearly flawless.”

Impressive performance
In our view, Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk was brilliant against Manchester City and was one of the best players on the pitch at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The former Celtic star kept Manchester City striker Erling Haaland quiet and looked to be back to his best.
The Dutchman went into challenges at the right time and was always there to clear the ball away or to put in the tackles.
For Liverpool to be successful in the Premier League and in the UEFA Champions League this season, in our view, Van Dijk will have to maintain this high level.
