Insiders at FC Barcelona are reportedly questioning why they made the decision to sign Raphinha from Leeds United this summer, with the winger once again having a poor performance for the La Liga giants over the weekend.

According to AS, figures within Barcelona have raised concerns over why the club pushed so hard to sign Raphinha, with the Catalan side beating the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea to bring the Brazilian international to the Camp Nou in one of the biggest transfers of the entire summer.

As reported by Sky Sports News, Barcelona paid a reported £55m to sign Raphinha, a club-record fee for Leeds who also lost midfielder Kalvin Phillips to Manchester City for a similar price, with the England international also struggling for form with the Premier League giants.

With just one goal and one assist in all competitions, Barcelona fans are growing weary of Raphinha’s lack of output, with the winger being hauled off at the hour mark this weekend in Barca’s 3-1 loss to Real Madrid, a result that saw Xavi Hernandez’s side lose their top spot in the La Liga standings.

Moreover, with Barcelona on the verge of exiting the UEFA Champions League group stages for the second year in a row, frustration is beginning to boil up once again in Catalonia, with Raphinha likely to be viewed as a scapegoat by the media and supporters in the coming weeks.

Indeed, Raphinha’s dream move to Barcelona is slowly crumbling into a nightmare, and for Leeds, their decision to sanction the transfer is beginning to look like the right decision given how impressive the Brazilian’s replacements have been this season.

Barcelona signing Raphinha is looking stranger by the week

With Ousmane Dembele re-signing with the club in the summer and Xavi implementing a strong emphasis on bringing through academy players, recruiting Raphinha in the transfer window is looking stranger by the week for Barcelona, especially given the winger’s poor performances.

Whilst there’s always a chance that Raphinha could find his form that made the attacker such a threat for Premier League clubs last season, time is never on anybody’s side at a team as big as Barcelona, and the South American could soon find himself as a regular on the bench for the La Liga side.
