Liverpool have been encouraged to make a move to sign Ivan Toney.

The English striker is having a stunning season in the Premier League and on Friday, scored his eighth goal of the campaign already.

To put that into context, Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah have only managed four goals in this competition between them during the 2022-23 campaign.

On this form, it’s only a matter of time before bigger Premier League outfits take an interest in the former Newcastle United hitman, who joined the Londoners for £10 million in 2020.

And Enrique believes that Toney – who is a Liverpool supporter – could be an ideal addition by Jurgen Klopp.

Could Liverpool sign Toney?

In a nutshell, no.

It’s not because he isn’t an excellent goalscorer in the Premier League, because we know that he is.

It’s because Klopp has an abundance of number nines and simply put, the Reds don’t need another.

The Anfield outfit have Nunez, Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota as central striking options.

Before a ball was kicked this season, Firmino looked the weaker of those options, and yet fast forward two months and the Brazil international has probably been Klopp’s most reliable attacking player.

There’s a lot of clubs who’ll be looking at Toney in January if he maintains this form, but Liverpool won’t be one of them.
