Speaking on The Athletic Football Podcast, Paul Taylor has made quite the claim about Nottingham Forest and a potential replacement for Steve Cooper.
Last week it looked as though Cooper was on the verge of the sack at Forest, but somehow, he’s survived and earned a new contract with the Tricky Trees.
However, that isn’t to say that the Reds didn’t think about replacing the Welshman.
Indeed, according to Taylor, Forest did sound-out replacements for Cooper, and they did eye some rather ambitious targets.
The journalist states that Forest looked into the possibility of bringing either Thomas Tuchel or Mauricio Pochettino to the club, but it became very clear that these appointments were unrealistic.

Forest went big
Taylor says Forest looked at Pochettino and Tuchel.
“They did sound out possible replacements for Cooper,” Taylor said.
“They were thinking about people like Pochettino and Tuchel, which was very ambitious. It became very clear, very quickly that they were unrealistic.”
Ambitious or stupid?
There’s a fine line between being ambitious and being naïve.
Forest looking at Pochettino and Tuchel is a huge statement of intent, but let’s be real, these two don’t want to be taking over a team that is facing a very real relegation battle at the moment.
Tuchel won the Champions League just 18 months ago, while Mauricio Pochettino has been linked to clubs such as Chelsea and West Ham very recently.
Forest need to be ambitious if they’re looking to replace Cooper, but they can’t overextend themselves, because that level of naivety isn’t going to get them anywhere.
At the moment, it looks like Cooper is safe in his job, but that could change very quickly, and if it does, Forest need to be a bit more streetwise in their hunt for a new manager.
