Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Michail Antonio has been speaking about his recent bout of illness.

David Moyes said in his press conference this week that Antonio had been suffering from a bit of a cold this week that had kept him out of training, but according to Antonio, he was sick before the game against Fulham at the weekend.

The Jamaica international, of course, came off the bench to score against the Whites on Sunday, but according to Antonio, he was feeling poorly before coming on.

Antonio wasn’t well

The striker discussed his recent ailments.

“I am dead mate, I am dead, I don’t know what I’ve got but it’s killing me, the last two days I haven’t gotten out of bed,” Antonio said.

“I was ill before the game. I woke up and I felt drained. I had no energy. Before the game I had Red Bulls, gels, vitamins and when I was on the bench my neck was getting sore, my back was getting sore. I just started to ache. I had a couple of pills just to get rid of that, and then when I was warming up my hamstrings were tight.”

“Leaving the game I hit a wall, I was shivering, eyes were closed and the last two days I’ve been in bits, I’ve been in bed.”

Professional

Imagine being so mentally tough that you can score a goal in a Premier League game while feeling like you don’t have any energy at all.

It really sounds like Antonio has been suffering this week, but somehow, he still managed to find the net against Fulham.

Most people can barely move when they have a bout of ‘man flu’, but Antonio got his head down and did what he does best at the London Stadium on Sunday.

You certainly can’t question Antonio’s commitment to his craft.
