Newcastle United are reportedly worried that Manchester City could one day attempt to sign Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazilian international continuing to light up the Premier League.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies are internally cautious that the English champions could swoop to sign Guimaraes in the near future, with the midfielder bagging a brace over the weekend for Eddie Howe’s side as the former Olympique Lyonnais star continues to impress week-in week-out for Newcastle.
The Toon signed Guimaraes last January for a-then club-record fee of £40m according to Sky Sports News. And the deal has been nothing short of a bargain for Newcastle, with the 24-year-old establishing himself as one of the best midfielders in the Premier League and a real talent for the future.
Eddie Howe recently hailed Guimaraes as a bargain signing after the midfielder’s incredible performance against Brentford on Saturday, and it seems like City have also been impressed with what they have seen from the Newcastle star since his arrival in England this year.

Indeed, Guimaraes is well on his way to becoming a cult hero at Newcastle as the northeast side continues to climb up the ranks in the Premier League. Yet should the Magpies fail to turn their newfound wealth into legitimate success in the form of silverware and European football, there’s a good chance that City can poach the Brazilian.
After all, City will soon have to find long-term replacements for the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Bernardo Silva, and Guimaraes fits the bill perfectly for what Pep Guardiola wants in a midfielder, with the Manchester side also having the funds to make any deal with the Newcastle star possible.
Newcastle have to be wary of City threat of signing Guimaraes

Newcastle’s recent signings under their new PIF owners have been nothing short of incredible, yet Guimaraes has been the real standout for Howe’s side in recent months. And it’s because of this that the club should be wary of a transfer threat from City for the Brazilian.
As we know, the Manchester giants will soon be in the market for a new central midfielder, and there’s a strong chance that Guardiola and company could move for Guimaraes, who has been nothing short of a revelation in the Premier League with Newcastle in 2022.
