FC Barcelona are reportedly keeping tabs on Manchester City midfielder Ilkay Gundogan, with Arsenal also believed to be interested in signing the German international.
According to Sport, the Cityzens captain is one of many midfielders Barcelona are keen to sign next year, with the position one that Xavi Hernandez has made a priority heading into the January transfer window. Yet Gundogan is hardly the first City playmaker to be linked with the Catalan side in recent months.
As per the report, Bernardo Silva remains a top target for Barcelona after the Portuguese international missed out on a move to the Nou Camp in the summer, with many expecting the former AS Monaco star to move to the La Liga giants in 2023 given that rumours over this transfer are yet to disappear.
Barcelona are not alone in their interest to sign Gundogan, as well. Fabrizio Romano reported earlier this year that Arsenal and German clubs are keen on the 31-year-old midfielder, and all signs seem to point towards the former Bourissa Dortmund star leaving Manchester next year.

Indeed, Gundogan himself could relish a new challenge after nearly seven years in Manchester. And whilst Arsenal might not be an ideal move given Mikel Arteta’s transfer policy, joining Barcelona would make quite a lot of sense for the four-time Premier League champion.
As we know, Barcelona signed for former Dortmund teammate Robert Lewandowski this summer with ex-City stars Ferran Torres and Eric Garcia also on Xavi’s books. And with Silva likely to move to Catalonia next summer, Gundogan should join his Portuguese partner to the Nou Camp.
Gundogan should consider signing for Barcelona in 2023

Gundogan has been one of City’s best servants since joining the club in 2016, yet even with the midfielder currently the club captain, a move to Barcelona at this stage of his career would be quite the move from the Germany superstar, and it could be one that leads to more silverware.
As we know, Barcelona are eager to return to the top of the European game, and whilst Gundogan is yet to win a UEFA Champions League, the City star has the quality and the experience to add a lot to a side as young as Xavi’s.
