According to L’Equipe, Tottenham have a key advantage over Arsenal in the race to sign N’Golo Kante from Chelsea.

Why Tottenham could beat Arsenal to Kante

Well, it was Foot Mercato who revealed that Arsenal or Tottenham are potential destinations for the France international, with his contract set to expire in July.

Chelsea are only offering the £30m man a two-year extension, and he is said to want a longer deal given the fact this could be the last significant contract he signs in his career. He also wants to stay in London.

L’Equipe believe Spurs may have the edge over the Gunners thanks to Antonio Conte.

The French news outlet refer to the fact that Kante helped the Italian guide Chelsea to the Premier League title in 2016, and since parting ways, the pair have maintained a ‘link’.

If Chelsea are unable to agree a new contract with the 31-year-old before the summer, it would seem Tottenham are the favourites for his signature with Conte at the helm.

Kante has only made two appearances for the Blues so far this season as a result of injury issues.

Nevertheless, when he is fit, everybody knows the Frenchman is capable of being the best in his position.

Tottenham would earn bragging rights over Arsenal

Arsenal famously pulled out of a deal to sign Kante from Caen in favour of a move for Granit Xhaka, and they lived to regret that as the Gunners watched him guide Leicester and then Chelsea to the Premier League title.

Now, if their north London rivals Tottenham spoil a second chance to sign the tireless midfielder, it would give Spurs fans bragging rights over Arsenal – if Kante delivers what we know he can, of course.

Just imagine if Kante guides Tottenham to the Premier League title before Arsenal get the chance to win it under Mikel Arteta – that would be a nightmarish scenario for those at the Emirates Stadium.

Be sure to keep an eye on this saga going into 2023, as anything could happen.
