Newcastle United wonderkid Garang Kuol is a ‘scintillating’ talent who can emulate PSG superstar Kylian Mbappe after joining the Premier League outfit, former youth coach Craig Carley tells the Toon Under podcast.
Kuol is far from the finished article. No one is suggesting he should be, having only celebrated his 18th birthday a couple of weeks ago.
Former Australia boss Guus Hiddink points out that, if Kuol is to live up to his vast potential, he must improve his physicality and technique.
But the fact that some are tipping the Egypt-born teenager to become the greatest Australian ever to play the game, having already caught the eye of ‘some of the biggest clubs in the world’ with Spanish giants Barcelona among them, the excitement that has greeted Kuol’s arrival at St James’ Park is not without justification.

Can Garang Kuol become Newcastle United’s very own Kyliam Mbappe?
“He’ll have a good role model in (Allan) Saint-Maximin at Newcastle. (He’s) very, very similar in terms of pace. He loves to beat a man and drive into the box. He’s got that X-Factor,” Carley explains.
“Someone like Mbappe; it’s a big call but that’s how high I believe he can go. I believe he can be one of the best players in the world. He’s just so direct and loves to beat a man, drive into the box, score and create goals.
“It’s scintillating to see. He’s going to be a star. I really do believe he will go on to be one of the best players in the world.”
Kuol, who has reportedly signed a £25,000-a-week deal at Newcastle and was present at Craven Cottage for last week’s 4-1 thumping of Fulham, is likely to be sent out on loan initially as he looks to obtain a work permit. Belgium or Portugal are two potential destinations.
“I think he is going to be under a great manager in Eddie Howe,” Carley adds.
“To see Garang in the crowd with the fans (at Fulham), that’s just him. He’s such a down-to-earth kid. He would give anyone who wants a conversation the time of day.
“He comes across as quiet and reserved but he’s so electric on the pitch. His attributes will suit the Premier League down to the ground.”
Per The Times, Kuol arrives from Central Coast Mariners for a potential bargain fee of just £300,000. The forward has four goals in just eight A-League games this season.
