Jurgen Klopp has stated that Darwin Nunez will absolutely score goals for Liverpool and believes that his performance on Tuesday is evidence of that.

The Reds got back to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Rangers in the Champions League.

Nunez was Liverpool’s spearhead of the attack on a night where the Uruguay international failed to score again.

The 23-year-old is the club’s all-time record signing following an £85 million transfer from Benfica this past summer but, so far, he has only managed two goals in eight appearances across all competitions – and none since scoring against Fulham on the opening weekend of the Premier League campaign.

With Erling Haaland in devastating form at Manchester City, it’s vital that Nunez improves dramatically as soon as possible.

However, Klopp, who used a different formation for Liverpool last night, is certain that his South American hitman – who earns £179,000 per week – will certainly explode soon.

He told the club’s official website: “So, you just see how good a striker he is to be constantly in these situations. I think everybody saw tonight that this [scoring goals] will happen, so all good.”

To be honest, Haaland’s form is doing Nunez no favours at all.

This season was billed as Haaland versus the Liverpool signing and there’s no question about who is looking like the better acquisition thus far.

The Norway international’s relentless goalscoring has added an element of pressure to Nunez, who was probably already under pressure by virtue of the fact that £85 million was spent on him.

But if the Liverpool manager says that the goals ‘will happen’ then that has to be trusted.
