Peter Crouch has claimed that Antonio Conte doesn’t entirely trust Yves Bissouma or Djed Spence at Tottenham Hotspur yet.
During the summer transfer window, Spurs dropped more than £50 million on signing Spence from Middlesbrough and Bissouma from Brighton & Hove Albion.
In a window where Tottenham signed two players for free and another on a season-long loan, those two represent fairly hefty investments – particularly the former Seagull who fetched £35 million [Eurosport].
However, Spence and Bissouma have only managed a combined 180 minutes of competitive action for the Lilywhites and that comes entirely from the latter.
They were both unused substitutions in the 0-0 draw with Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
And Crouch has told BT Sport that Conte isn’t fully convinced by either of them just yet.
He said: “I do think there is a lack of trust in them, with Bissouma and Spence as well. I think there is a lack of belief in starting them.”
Bissouma will be particularly disappointed.
Spence is only 22 and has zero experience of Premier League football, suggesting that perhaps Conte feels he needs more of an easing-in period.
In Bissouma’s case, he’s a bonafide Premier League star and one who courted interest from the likes of Manchester United and Arsenal in the past.
That’s why he cost £35 million so he’s a much bigger mystery than Spence, it has to be said.
