Nottingham Forest are considering Nuno Espirito Santo as a potential replacement for Steve Cooper should they sack the Welshman.

Who would have thought that signing over 20 players in one window wouldn’t go well?

Look, we understand Forest’s situation; some key players that helped them win promotion were only on loan and others were at the end of their contracts.

Forest certainly needed a raft of signings but more than 20 may have been pushing it.

One win in eight to start the season – and five defeats in a row – is not ideal for Forest, who have already leaked 21 goals this season.

Nottingham Forest are considering Nuno Espirito Santo

Cooper pulled off a minor miracle by dragging Forest to promotion last season but Monday’s 4-0 thrashing at Leicester City leaves him on the brink.

Forest may well choose to sack Cooper and appear to be considering alternatives already.

The Athletic report that one name in the mix is that of Nuno Espirito Santo.

It’s suggested that Forest are looking towards the former Wolves boss and could move for him if they do move to replace Cooper.

Nuno spent four years in charge of Wolverhampton Wanderers before leaving last summer with an impressive record of 95 wins in 199 games.

Nuno headed off to Tottenham Hotspur in a move that just felt like a terrible fit from minute one, and he was axed after just over four months in the job.

The Portuguese coach has recently found a new role, taking over Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad in July.

It would be bold of Nuno to leave that job so quickly but a chance to return to the Premier League may just be too good to pass up.

A rather pragmatic coach who favours being solid over being entertaining, Nuno may be what Forest need in a battle against the drop but fans likely wouldn’t be as entertained as they have been under Cooper.

Nuno is just one of the names Forest are considering though and the coming days will define whether Evangelos Marinakis does chase a new boss.
