Shakhtar Donetsk wonderkid Mykhaylo Mudryk has been speaking about his future amid interest from Newcastle and Arsenal.

Newcastle & Arsenal target Mudryk aiming high

Speaking to Marca, the Ukraine international admitted that he would like to test himself at a higher level, although he is currently satisfied with life at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Mudryk said: “I would like to develop myself and reach a higher level in my career, but my thoughts, at the moment, are with Shakhtar.”

The Ukrainian prodigy also played down comparisons to Neymar.

The 21-year-old’s comments come after iNews claimed that Newcastle are thinking about making a £50m bid for the wonderkid’s services, with Arsenal’s interest also mentioned in the report.

Mudryk burst onto the scene last season with two goals and nine assists in 19 appearances for Shakhtar Donetsk, and he is already making progress on that fine return this term.

In the current campaign, the Shakhtar Donetsk No.10 has scored two goals while also providing six assists in just six appearances, so he is well on track to better last season’s tally of goal involvements.

Newcastle may lose out to Arsenal

In a few years, Newcastle could realistically be a Champions League side – for now, however, they are in danger of losing out to Arsenal in the race for Mudryk.

Aside from the fact Arsenal can offer the youngster European football, Mudryk himself has also admitted that he would find it very hard to reject a move to the Emirates Stadium.

As quoted by CBS Sports, the international colleague of Oleksandr Zinchenko said: “Arsenal are a very good team. From my side, I can’t say no.”

Therefore, Newcastle may need to do more than just submit a significant offer for Mudryk, with his sights set on the Gunners – it will take some convincing to sign him without European football on offer.
