Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering Vitor Pereira just months after Everton fans raged against the idea of him becoming their boss.

Wolves have decided to part ways with Bruno Lage after just shy of 16 months in the job.

Lage replaced Nuno Espirito Santo in the summer of 2021 and secured a top-half finish last season.

Yet just one win in eight Premier League games this season means Lage has now lost his job, with Saturday’s 2-0 defeat at West Ham United proved to be the final straw.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are considering Vitor Pereira

Wolves must now find a replacement for Lage and it’s no great surprise that a raft of Portuguese managers are being linked.

Jorge Mendes continues to have major influence at Wolves, their last two managers have been Portuguese and there are 10 players from Portugal in Wolves’ first-team squad.

Pedro Martins and Ruben Amorim are just two names mentioned so far but another can now be added to the list.

Portuguese newspaper Record now report that Wolves are considering a move for Vitor Pereira.

Pereira, 54, is thought to be on Wolves’ radar in a move that may well divide opinion in the Molineux fanbase.

Pereira is currently in charge of Brazilian side Corinthians, where he has claimed 22 wins, 16 draws and 15 defeats.

The former Porto boss has been up and down in recent years; his 2021 spell with Fenerbahce was disappointing, as was suffering relegation with a bizarre move to 1860 Munich in 2017.

Yet Pereira won 65 games in 93 at Porto, won a league title at Olympiacos, claimed 38 wins in 62 games in his first spell at Fenerbahe and then racked up 69 wins in 118 games at Shanghai SIPG.

Pereira’s reputation is mixed at this point and Everton fans rallied against him earlier this year.

The Guardian reported in January that Pereira was Farhad Moshiri’s top choice to replace Rafael Benitez and Pereira confirmed to Sky Sports that he had a ‘few interviews, not just one’ with the Toffees.

However, Everton went for Frank Lampard having witnessed angry protests from fans who sprayed graffiti urging the club not to appoint Pereira.

Less than a year on, Pereira could end up in the Premier League after all with Wolves now considering a deal that Everton didn’t dare to strike.
