The finals of the 2022-23 UEFA Nations League will take place in June and the four matches look set to be held in the Netherlands.

The Netherlands, Italy and Croatia will be joined by either Portugal or Spain in the finals, and those two sides will meet tonight.

Fernando Santos’ Selecao, who won the inaugural season of the international competition in 2019, will qualify if they avoid defeat against Luis Enrique’s La Roja.

In what is already a crammed campaign due to the 2022 World Cup in Qatar taking place in the winter, the season will extend for those international players representing the four qualified nations.

Italy are the only side to have qualified for the Nations League finals who won’t be featuring at the World Cup having been knocked out at the play-off stage by North Macedonia.

When will the UEFA Nations League finals take place?

The tournament will be held from 14 to 18 June 2023 in the Netherlands (pending formal approval by the UEFA Executive Committee).

The tournament, which will be contested by the four group winners of Nations League A, will consist of two semi-finals, a third place play-off and final.

France, who are the defending champions, failed to qualify with Croatia progressing from the reigning world champions’ group instead.

UEFA announced in April that Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Wales, who made up Nations League Group A4, had declared interest in hosting the finals of the Nations League.

With all four nations being in the same group, the group winner was in line to be appointed as the host, provided that UEFA’s requirements were met.

Having won Group A4, the Netherlands look set to be the hosts pending formal approval by UEFA.
