TeamTalk claim Aston Villa and Steven Gerrard are ‘favourites’ to sign Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara in the January window, with the Ibrox club willing to cash in on the Finland international for a fee of just £10million.

Kamara, 26, has been in and out of the Rangers side this season under Giovanni van Bronckhorst. Featuring in 10 of his side’s 14 league and cup fixtures this season, Kamara has only started six times. He is hardly first choice for Rangers.

But Gerrard is obviously a fan, having signed the ex-Arsenal man while at Rangers for a fee of £50,000 from Dundee. Kamara is seen as one of his best bits of business while he was in the Ibrox dugout. Now, Rangers are ready to sell.

TeamTalk report that Rangers want just £10million for Kamara in January. They say that Villa are ‘favourites’ to win his signature and will not be put off by the figure. He has a contract at Ibrox until the summer of 2025.

Villa favourites to sign Rangers midfielder Kamara for just £10million

While Kamara is struggling to get into the Rangers XI, he is still highly regarded north of the border. In the opinion of many, he is actually better for the Gers in European competition. That is, compared to his form in the Premiership.

Villa do have midfield options. But Morgan Sanson’s future is unlikely to be at Villa, while new signing Boubacar Kamara has picked up an injury. Douglas Luiz is out of contract at the end of the current season. They need another.

For just £10million, they could do a lot worse than a player like Kamara. A player with Champions League experience, 168 appearances under his belt at a club like Rangers – and is set to earn his 48th cap on Monday night.
