Harald V, King of Norway, has revealed that he is a fan of Manchester City superstar Erling Haaland, who this weekend was once again on the scoresheet in his nation’s 2-1 loss to Serbia in the UEFA Nations League.

In an excerpt from the Times, the 85-year-old monarch admits that he is a supporter of Haaland, who after 22 international games is already on 21 goals for Norway, just 12 off Jorgen Juve’s record off 33 for the Scandinavian nation.

Haaland has been nothing short of a sensation since breaking through at Molde as a teenager, with the striker going on to dominate with RB Salzburg, Borussia Dortmund and now Premier League champions City, where the forward has already broken numerous records with the English giants.

And the attacker’s qualities have caught the attention of royalty itself, with King Harald V saying: “Haaland is a wonderful, special footballer,” with many Norway fans expecting Haaland as well as Arsenal playmaker Martin Odegaard to shepherd a new era of the sport in the country.

Praise from King shows just how far Erling Haaland can take Norway

Norway might have missed out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup, but there is a strong chance that Haaland could lead the Lovene to Euro 2024, with qualification, set to be held in Germany, for the competition to begin after this winter’s tournament in Qatar.

Indeed, the hopes of many will be on Haaland for Norway as the striker continues to shine for both club and country, and praise from the King himself will only spur the City star on to impress for the European nation in upcoming qualifiers and competitions.
