Simon Phillips has told GiveMeSport that reported Tottenham Hotspur transfer target Anthony Gordon wanted to move to Chelsea from Everton in the summer transfer window.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has claimed that Everton winger Gordon had his head turned by Chelsea and was pushing for a move to Stamford Bridge.

Phillips has said that he expects Graham Potter’s side to make a bid for the English winger in the January transfer window.

Earlier this week, journalist Paul Brown told GiveMeSport that Tottenham and Chelsea remain interested in the 21-year-old and could make bids, adding that both the London clubs are aware that he is not close to signing a new long-term contract with Everton.

Sky Sports reported in August that former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners Chelsea wanted to sign the 21-year-old winger in the summer transfer window and were prepared to pay £60 million for him.

CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs reported on Twitter last month that Tottenham were keen on Gordon and were willing to cough up as much as £35 million for the winger, described as “a player who is very explosive” by former Everton manager Rafael Benitez in The Liverpool Echo in October 2021.

Tottenham target Anthony Gordon pushed for Chelsea move

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “I fully expect Chelsea to go in for him again, whether that’s in January or the summer. Gordon’s clearly had his head turned by the Chelsea interest and he was pushing for that move.”

January transfer possible?

With Tottenham Hotspur and Chelsea still interested in Anthony Gordon, it does seem that Everton face uncertainty over the future of the English winger.

Yes, the Toffees would not want to sell any of their best players in the middle of the season, but if Tottenham and/or Chelsea make good offers, then anything could happen.
