Manchester United are now showing an interest in Jordan Pickford and could move for the Everton ace. The Old Trafford club are assessing him as an option to replace David de Gea.

That is according to The Telegraph, which reports the Red Devils are weighing up De Gea’s future. The Spaniard only has nine months remaining on his lucrative contract, but the club have an option to extend his terms until 2024. However, his wages could prove a problem.

Manchester United’s wage bill reached a Premier League record £384m for last season. De Gea accounted for over £350k-a-week of their spend after earning a new deal in 2019. But he is among those on a 25% reduction after they did not qualify for the Champions League.

With De Gea turning 32 on November 7, Manchester United are now weighing up moving on from the Spain international. He has been at Old Trafford since 2011 after joining from Atletico Madrid for £19m under Alex Ferguson. He has also made 495 appearances so far.

Should the Madrid native’s time at Old Trafford be over, several shot-stoppers will be put under the spotlight. Pickford is a goalkeeper whom Manchester United may be interested in buying, with the Everton number one set to be out of contract at Goodison Park in 2024.

Multiple clubs are also keeping tabs on the 45-cap England No.1’s situation on Merseyside. As well as him having just a season remaining on the £100k-a-week deal he penned back in 2018 come next June, he will also count towards the Premier League’s homegrown quotas.

Jordan Pickford is earning Manchester United’s interest with his Everton displays

Pickford has been in inspired form so far this season, despite only having one clean sheet from six Premier League appearances. HITC Football has placed the 28-year-old second in our Power Rankings for the Toffees so far this season, having regularly been their saviour.

His performances between the sticks have regularly been sublime, particularly in Everton’s meetings with Chelsea and Liverpool. Frank Lampard hailed Pickford’s performance in the goalless Merseyside derby earlier this month, in which he again served as their captain.

“Jordan gets fingertips on a few bits today which a lot of keepers don’t get and Allison the same, two top class keepers,” Lampard told BBC Sport. “I’ve relied on Jordan a lot, he’s an amazing keeper and we’re fortunate to have a player of this level.”
