Antonio Conte’s Tottenham Hotspur will reportedly face competition for Leicester City attacking midfielder James Maddison from Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in the January transfer window.

Newcastle United eye Tottenham Hotspur target James Maddison

Earlier this week, well-known and well-respected journalist Dean Jones told GiveMeSport that Tottenham like the £110,000-a-week (SalarySport) 25-year-old playmaker.

On August 5, 90min reported that Tottenham were keen on bringing  Maddison from Leicester to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

The Athletic have reported this morning that Newcastle ‘retain an interest’ in Maddison.

The Magpies reportedly wanted to sign the England international playmaker in the summer transfer window.

The report adds: “The 25-year-old will only have 18 months left on his contract come the end of the season, although Leicester have an option to extend his stay at the King Power Stadium, and his versatility makes him an attractive prospect, as does his creativity and eye for goal.”

Could a transfer happen?

In our view, Newcastle United could be able to sign James Maddison from Leicester City in the January transfer window.

The Foxes are not having the best of seasons, and Maddison could be tempted to move to an ambitious club like Newcastle who are going places.

Newcastle are a wealthy club, and they could be willing to spend big on the English star.

Maddison has scored 36 goals and created 38 big chances in 139 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The 25-year-old has scored three goals and provided one assist in six Premier League appearances so far this season.
