Jeffrey Dahmer’s The Exorcist 3 obsession

Episode 1 shows Dahmer going out to a bar and picking up a man named Tracy Edwards, who indeed did have a real-life near-fatal encounter with the killer.

Played by Shaun J. Brown in the show, he accompanies Dahmer to his apartment to take pictures but it soon becomes clear that he’s trapped and must use his intelligence to try and escape.

One scene depicts Dahmer forcing him to watch The Exorcist 3, William Peter Blatty’s 1990 psychological horror movie, and the third installment in the franchise that began in 1973.

Dahmer tells the man captive beside him that he watched the film every day and it turns out that Dahmer did actually have an obsession with the film, Screenrant reports.

Exorcist 3 and the Gemini Killer

The Los Angeles Times reports that Dahmer did force Edwards to watch the movie on that frightening night in 1991.

He gave testimony and explained that Dahmer became visibly excited during sequences that showed a priest being possessed by the devil.

However, Screenrant reports that Edwards’ testimony suggests Dahmer’s passion for the film stems from the character of The Gemini Killer (played by Brad Dourif) and there are parallels to be drawn between his fictional crimes and Dahmer’s.

Dahmer was known to keep body parts from his victims, including hands and skulls. The Gemini Killer in the film also kept such body parts after orchestrating the murders. It’s also touched upon that the Gemini Killer drained the bodies before decapitating them; Dahmer himself was fascinated by the body and dissection etc.

The film now has a reputation as being a favorite of real-life murderers. Of course, there are a vast array of films that feature similar content and focus their lens on serial killers. Nevertheless, this is the film that he somewhat famously fixated upon.
