Netflix has become the bona fide home of true-crime stories in recent years and while most of their efforts have been documentaries, the latest offering from the streamer is a fully-fledged drama series that tells the story of Jeffrey Dahmer.

The new series details the nefarious deeds that resulted in Dahmer becoming known as the Milwaukee Cannibal while also exploring the lives of his victims and the circumstances that perpetuated the brutal killing spree.

Jeffrey Dahmer’s childhood features heavily during the series but a notable absence from the drama is his brother, David.

Who is Jeffrey Dahmer’s brother?

Jeffrey Dahmer’s brother was born in December 1966 not long after the family moved to Ohio from Wisconsin.

Dahmer’s parents allowed Jeffrey to choose his younger brother’s name, deciding on David.

Born six years apart, the boys “enjoyed themselves as brothers,” said their father Lionel in a 2004 interview with Larry King. But there was always a “difference in interests” while they were growing up.

Other sources, however, have reported that Jeffrey resented his younger brother for taking up more of his parents’ attention.

What happened to David Dahmer?

Following Lionel and Joyce Dahmer’s divorce in 1978, David lived with his mother and relatives in Wisconsin for a time after she won custody.

In the wake of Jeffrey’s crimes coming to light, David changed his name, assumed a new identity and retreated from public life.

David has never taken part in any media appearances and he is not referenced in Netflix’s new series.

In the 2004 interview with Larry King, Lionel explained: “We’ve promised to keep him completely secret.”

Although, David’s stepmother, Shari Dahmer, offered a few details about his situation, revealing that he had a steady career and was expecting his second child.
