Let’s be honest. Wednesdays just haven’t been the same since One Chicago concluded its run of seasons earlier this year.

Fortunately, the waiting game has come to an end. Chicago Wednesdays are back and bigger than ever.

Chicago Med, PD, and Fire have returned to NBC and Peacock, with Med, in particular, offering fans an incredibly eventful premiere. Created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, Chicago Med is the third instalment of the franchise and began premiering in 2015, with season 8 arriving on Wednesday, September 21st 2022.

Familiar faces at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center are a cause for celebration but it’s not all great news… is Dr Scott leaving Chicago Med?

Is Dr Scott leaving Chicago Med in season 8?

Yes, Variety confirms that Guy Lockard is officially leaving Chicago Med as Dr Dylan Scott.

The season 8 premiere addresses that he’s chosen to leave his position at the hospital in the wake of Jo’s (played by Riley Voelkel) passing.

He previously embarked upon a romance with the undercover cop in season 7 but she died in the ER. Dealing with this shocking blow, he’s ultimately decided to start fresh somewhere else.

Co-showrunners Andrew Schneider and Diane Frolov have confirmed that he’s stepping away this season.

‘We’re leaving that door open’

However, it’s worth addressing that there is hope for a potential return down the line, just like there has been for Yaya DaCosta as April this season. Diane recently explained the decision behind Scott’s exit to Variety.

“Right now, we’ve finished that arc of his story, so he is leaving right now, but we have people leave and we have them come back,” she revealed. “We’re leaving that door open.”

So, there is hope that he could come back in a later season. Indeed, Andrew weighed in on the situation too:

“We love Guy. He did a great job and was wonderful to work with. But what was sort of the cornerstone of his character was a doctor who had been a cop, and couldn’t escape his past — it becomes very evident in the premiere episode.”

He continued: “So having really resolved that, we felt we had really covered his story arc, but Guy is so good and was such a wonderful character that we would welcome bringing him back in the future.”
