According to ABC, Julen Lopetegui’s role at Sevilla is hanging in the balance after a torrid start to the season.
The former Real Madrid manager is having a shocking run in La Liga. His Sevilla side have won just one of their opening six games in the league, while they’re also struggling in the Champions League after being smashed 4-0 by Manchester City earlier this month.
This situation may well be of interest to fans of Leeds United. After all, Lopetegui was one of the candidates considered to replace Marcelo Bielsa at one point.

It looks as though Leeds made the right decision in going for Jesse Marsch rather than Lopetegui as the American continues to get the best out of this creative Leeds team.
The likes of Jack Harrison, Rodrigo, Luis Sinisterra and Brendan Aaronson have all found their best form under Marsch, while Lopetegui is struggling to get the best out of Sevilla’s vast attacking talents.
Isco, Erik Lamela, Jesus Corona and Papu Gomez should be creating a plethora of chances in this Seville team, but for some reason, this team are so blunt going forward, netting just seven goals so far this season.
Simply put, Lopetegui wouldn’t have been the best man to replace Bielsa and his all-action, attacking style of play, and while going for a former Spain and Real Madrid manager would have been tempting, the Whites made the right decision in sticking to the philosophy honed by Bielsa and going for Marsch who has been able to continue the Argentine’s good work.
Leeds had a huge job on their hands when it came to replacing Bielsa, and while the likes of Lopetegui and Ernesto Valverde were considered, Marsch prevailed as the leading candidate, and that seems to have been a good decision so far.
